Big events coming up...

Melrose celebrates Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
January 19, 2009

The Melrose community will once again gather to celebrate the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with its annual potluck dinner, which will be held on Monday, January 19, 2009, at the First Congregational Church in Melrose.

The event is sponsored by the Melrose Human Rights Commission, the Melrose chapter of the League of Women Voters, the Melrose Interfaith Clergy Association and the Melrose Alliance Against Violence. The First Congregational Church is located at 121 West Foster Street. The dinner will start at 5:00 p.m. and will continue until 6:30 p.m. The evening’s entertainment, which will end by 7:30 p.m., will follow immediately.

Entertainment for this year’s event will be provided by the Emmanuel Baptist Church Choir from Malden and by the Melrose MLK Day Choir. Those who plan to attend the Potluck Dinner on January 19 should bring a dish to serve four to six people, whether a main dish, salad, or dessert. Out of concern for the dietary preferences and limitations that many people have, the sponsors request that those who are bringing a dish provide labels identifying the ingredients.
